Year One / Semester Two - Illustration at SAA

A compilation of pieces from SAA! :)

Illustration is absolutely my passion.
But, just because I love Illustration as much as I do doesn't mean that's ALL I want to do. This is why SAA was (and still is) a blessing for me.
Enough of the sappy, let's get on to the work!

After a lot of technique practice and what not, our first project finally got assigned to us! It was entitled 'Flora, Fauna, Fantasy.'
I decided to draw the 'see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil' monkeys as naked demon satyr girl people cause why not?
I tried to do watercolour and that just didn't work out too well for me to say the least. Also I learned to not glue live flowers to your paintings. (I wanted to press them but I only had 3 days so)
As it was Febuary, the second project was based on Valentines day and thus the theme given to us was "What Is Love - The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly", I chose the Ugly. My favourite type of character is called 'Yandere'.
" (ヤンデレ) is a Japanese term for a person who is initially very loving and gentle to someone (or at least innocent) before their devotion becomes destructive in nature, often through violence and/or brutality."
So basically, her not boyfriend loved someone who wasn't her and she was NOT having it. This was my first time ever painting as well, I learned a lot! It was very fun :)
I really like how this painting came out as well. The theme for this painting was a euphanism. So I chose "Exotic Dancer" but instead of a stripper, she's a belly dancer. (Cause, you know, as white people anything that's not American is exotic! Or something racist like that?) I have a few friends who are belly dancers and I've always loved watching them dance, so I thought this was a perfect match.
The final project was to do a celebrity portrait. Rightfully so, I chose Lana Del Rey.
I got a lot of help from my teacher on this, especially with the hair, but all in all I love how it turned out! :)
